Board of Education Update – October 2021

At the October 19 2021 Board of Education meeting, we conducted our regular business meeting at 5:00 P.M. and the 2nd Public Hearing related to the Bond Proposition at 6:00 P.M. Park City School District Board of Education heard reports and updates from our Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Amy Hunt, our Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Mike Tanner, and our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jill Gildea.

Dr. Hunt recognized the work of our nurses, counselors, social workers, behavior specialists, and outreach liaisons. She introduced the USBE Utah College and Career Readiness School Counseling Program model. Dr. Hunt also introduced the Reach the Summit Transformation Academy, which will support 14 teachers, counselors, or social workers in developing the skills needed for transformational systems work.  She also introduced the Principal Lab program which provides 1:1 and school/classroom site visits every other week throughout the 21/22 school year by members of the Teaching/Learning team and makes our Instructional Framework supporting Planning/Preparation, Instruction, Assessment and Climate/Culture visible throughout our classrooms and our schools.

Mr. Tanner provided the school board with an Operations update addressing child nutrition services which is fully staffed, transportation, Human Resources and ongoing analysis of substitute teacher fill rates, and safety/security in managing open door alerts at our secondary schools.

Emily Lepold shared activities that have occurred and also upcoming as we approach the end of October. In addition, she highlighted the work of the PCHS Student Council in promoting mental health awareness and shared resources available to Park City youth including the SafeUT app.

Dr. Gildea highlighted staff, student and system successes and outlined our work ahead for continuous system improvement.

The Board heard from community members in the second of the two scheduled Public Hearings, and we have additional information sessions scheduled at:

Parley’s Park Elementary School Zoom Session, October 26, 2021 – 11:00 AM – noon

Jeremy Ranch Elementary School, October 26, 2021 – 1:00 – 2:00 P.M.
