Board of Education Update – June 29, 2021

            by Erin Grady, BOE President

On Tuesday, June 29, 2021, the Park City School District Board of Education met together to learn about clean energy solutions as well as to provide direction on the key outcomes that our community wishes to achieve in implementing the master facilities plan.

The Board of Education affirmed the community’s priorities related to the master plan:

  1. Bring 9th grade into PCHS
  2. Serve 6th, 7th and 8th middle grades at EHMS
  3. Additions at the elementary schools along with additional wrap services space at 2 of the elementary sites to serve PreK
  4. Increase energy efficiencies and incorporate green solutions

The Board’s direction to the Facilities Team is to minimize disruption to students and the learning environment throughout the construction cycle, stick to necessities in planning and implementing the master plan, and improve energy efficiencies.

At today’s work session, the Board of Education defined and clarified its clean energy goals that are in alignment with Park City Municipal and Summit County’s renewable energy plans and provided direction to the Facilities Team to incorporate energy efficiencies, green building materials and design/ build to a LEED Silver or DFCM high performance building standard.

The Park City School District and Board of Education are committed to pursuing Renewable Energy through the partnerships provided by HB 411 with Park City and Summit County as anchor communities, setting a target of Energy Utilization Intensity (EUI) under 35, and building toward high performance building standards.

The master facility plan has been developed over a 2+ year period with the meaningful input of stakeholders throughout the planning process.  As the Park City School District Board of Education prepares to implement the plan, we look forward to additional community participation and engagement in setting the course for the Future of Learning.
